About this mod

Vault Security and other Vault characters are all given suppressed pistols instead of their usual unsuppressed pistols. The mod integrates the Silenced 10mm Pistol into Vault-related inventories, scripts, quests, and so forth.

Permissions and credits
:The Wherefore
You wouldn't think so from playing video games, but real-life guns can be tremendously loud, and it's all the worse if you fire one in a small room or hallway. Not only does it degrade your hearing permanently, but it deafens you and those around you in the moment, and the muzzle-flash can dazzle one's vision in low light. So i'm sharing this little mod for all you realism-freaks out there. I don't think i have to spell out the disadvantages that the above would present to Vault Security during an emergency, so it makes some sense that a vault's firearms would be issued with suppressors.

:Implementation
If it involves a 10mm Pistol and it happens in a vault, i've got it covered. All 10mm Pistols in—or directly originating from—vaults are now suppressed, whether it's the one lying in the neglected reactor room, or the ones stolen by Amata or Butch, or the ones issued to Vault Security during Escape! and later events, all 10mm Pistols have been replaced by their suppressed counterpart. This involves 10mm Pistols in NPC inventories, as well as ones added through, or referenced in, dialog, packages, quests, and scripts.

:Game-play
I view this as minimally intrusive on the player's experience, considering how easy it is to get a Silenced 10mm Pistol early in the game. Although not all paths lead to a Silenced 10mm Pistol early on, the designers apparently didn't consider it to be an excessive advantage to have one during the game's earliest stages.

:Parts of this mod are also implemented in
SW Model 5906 10mm Pistol replacer

:Utility and conflicts
This mod is of almost no use if not active—at the latest—before Trouble on the Homefront, as most of the changes are only appreciable during the Vault 101 quests, and its only lasting effects are the 10mm Pistol given to you by Amata, and Butch's 10mm Pistol. I recommend not activating this mod while Escape! or Trouble on the Homefront are underway, as it might break some of the tense moments in these quests. As far as conflict with other mods, it seems unlikely, but i'm in the dark there.

:Things i checked to make sure this works [spoilers]
To test the functioning of this mod, i found that the following events play out as they should. Amata gives you the Silenced 10mm Pistol at the beginning of Escape! if you accept it. If you tell Amata to keep it, she will draw it if threatened by Officer Mack, and kill him if things are left to escalate. If you talk to her in her home, she will give the gun to you if she has it. On hearing Amata's distress call, Amata, Butch, and relevant Vault Security members will be given Silenced 10mm Pistols. Officer Taylor will fire a shot at Freddie during their conflict in the Atrium.

:Installation
Put Silenced 10mm pistols for vault-dwellers.esp in [hard drive partition]\[program files folder]\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Data (unless you have the Steam version; in that case i don't know exactly where it goes). Find it in Fallout Mod Manager or find it under "Data" in the Fallout launcher. Check the box next to it.
