A counter for your HUD, to be used with Antistar's 'Nightvision Goggles - Powered' mod, or other mods that use Energy Cells as power source.

Description

This simple mod adds a nightvision goggles counter (NVG Counter) to your HUD that displays how many energy cells you have left in your inventory, which power the Nightvision Goggles - Powered mod, by Antistar. I named the counter 'Nightvision Timer' but you can change it if you want it to display something else (like 'Energy Cells' for example), by editing the NVG_HUD.xml file inside the menus > prefabs > NVG folder. This mod works with any 'nightvision' mod that uses Energy Cells to power them up (actually, with any mod that uses Energy Cells as power source for something).

If installed correctly, the counter will appear on your HUD when you next load up the game. The position of the counter on-screen can be adjusted in-game, just hold down ENTER key and use the arrow/cursor keys on your keyboard to shift it right, left, up or down.

Note that the counter will turn red if you have less than 10 Energy Cells left.

Requirements

  • Fallout 3
  • Fallout Script Extender - FOSE
  • Note that this counter doesn't require Nightvision Goggles - Powered to work, it will display the remaining Energy Cells available in your inventory regardless of the nightvision mod you use.

Installation

Two alternatives, choose one:

1st. Click the DOWNLOAD WITH MANAGER button. Then activate with the NMM, and enjoy. :)

or

2nd. Manual installation:

1. Extract the "menus" folder to your \Fallout 3\Data\ directory. If asked if you want to overwrite files and folders, click 'Yes to all' (or equivalent in whatever OS version you have).

2. Navigate to your \Fallout 3\Data\menus\main\ directory, and check to see if hud_main_menu.xml is there. If it is, skip to step 4.

3a. If it is not, or if that folder does not exist, move the "main" and "prefabs" folders located in the .rar into your \Fallout 3\Data\Menus folder.

3b. If the file is there, open it up using a text editor (or just Notepad). Scroll to the bottom, and just above the last line, add:

<include src="NVG\NVG_HUD.xml" />

So the last two lines will then look like:

<include src="NVG\NVG_HUD.xml" />

</menu>

4. Enable the Nightvision Goggles Counter.esp in your load order manager (such as NMM or FOMM) or with the FalloutLauncher, and you're done. Position in your load order is unimportant.

Once installed, check to make sure any further mods you install do not overwrite hud_main_menu.xml. If they do, re-add the <include src="NVG\NVG_HUD.xml" /> line once the file has been overwritten. If you're not sure, check in-game (it should be pretty apparent, the hud counters will disappear the next time you play the game).

FAQ

Q) Your HUD (as seen in the screenshots) looks different to mine. What mods are you using to make it look like that?

A) Not including Nightvision Goggles Counter itself of course; these mods:

Save Games

Activating or de-activating this mod should not have any negative effects on your existing save games - but as always, it is good practice to keep backups.

Conflicts / Known Issues

This mod uses ENTER key plus the arrow/cursor keys (in combination) as hotkeys, and so may have compatibility issues with other mods that use the same keys. Obviously it could also be an issue if your custom key-binds for the game happen to result in you needing to press ENTER and the arrow keys at the same time as part of normal gameplay.
